Are you suffering with chronically slow Broadband? Do your Picture/Film/Data files taking horrifically long to send? Does it seem to take an age for a Youtube video to play? If yes…then this book can help you.
Did you know thick walls, multiple ceilings, and hidden metal beams can all have a detrimental effect on your Wi-Fi broadband speed? Is your Broadband Router at one end of the house and you’re at the other?
All this elements produce a drastic slowdown. Rather than hammering down the motorway you’re actually driving down a narrow road, full of speed bumps behind a large truck! When working from home or just interested in surfing the net slowdowns can be very frustrating and time consuming.
One of the best options is to actually move your Broadband Router to a more central position in your house therefore maximizing your Wi-Fi spread or you may even want to move it next to your PC/Mac so you can plug straight into it. Plugging straight into the Router maximizes your Broadband speed.
There are a number of other reasons to move your router including it being situated in a cosmetically unappealing place.
I’ve been a Data and Telecommunications Engineer for the last 15 years. I’ve encountered almost every type of installation problem. I wanted to write an informative and easy to understand book on moving a Router.
The Wi-Fi signal spreads outward in a sphere and like cordless phones the signal actually works better when up higher or on another floor. Many people are now moving their Router so it’s next to the computer they use most and use a patch lead and plug directly into it. This maximizes your Broadband so there is no loss of speed. Wi-Fi can be upto 50% slower than hard-wired – even more so if you have thick walls blocking the signal.
So i can help you move the Router and increase your Internet speed – this will be so much easier and faster for surfing the net, watching films and sending files!
So how will i help? Well firstly it’s not as difficult as it sounds and i will lay everything out keeping it simple and safe.
1) I will help list all the equipment you need so you get everything together.
2) I’ll help advise on cabling inside a house. This can be very tricky due to neatness being of high importance. No one wants to see ugly tram-lining cables stapled to your lovely wood skirting? Knowing how to get around the architecture can make all the difference between a very hard job and a relatively easy job. I’m going to help you use your house to your advantage.
3) I’m going to help you connect the new socket and connect to the existing line jack.
4) Finally it’s the test, theres a few ways to be 100% sure everything is working.
So together we are going to use this simple ”How to” to work out how to move that Router and make as neat a job as possible.
Let’s get cabling!
